VG-D series

The GIEBEL adsorbers of the VG-D series are oil mist separators and are used for the adsorption of oil mist. Due to the combination of sloshing protection, oil demister and a high amount of activated carbon, the air flowing out of hydraulic tanks, gearboxes and drums is cleaned and the environment is protected from contamination with oil and oil aerosols.

The application is, for example, on turbo gearboxes, test benches and oil circulation lubrication systems.

VG-D adsorbers are available as disposable versions and are completely replaced after complete saturation (discoloration of the white silica gel layer). Thus, maintenance is performed within a very short time. The selection is based on the size of the plant and the amount of pollutant emitted to ensure high efficiency and long service life.

Structure and added value

Cost-oriented operation with disposable adsorber

Clean supply air due to integrated 3μm filter from fiberglass

4Active Carbon:
Large amount of activated carbon to absorb oil mists and other pollutants

5Oil demister:
Separation of oil particles by integrated wire filter

6Sloshing protection:
Prevents oil droplets from entering the desiccant

7Easy maintenance:
Silica gel as an optical and efficient indicator for maintenance

Method of operation

  • The level in the system decreases
  • Polluted air is sucked in
  • Air flows pressureless into adsorber
  • Glas fibre filter filters air to 3μm

Dry and clean supply air

Adsorbtion – Separation of oil particles

  • The level in the system increases
  • Oily air is squeezed out
  • Demisters bind larger quantities of oil
  • Glass fiber filter separates further particles
  • Activated carbon absorbs all oil particles

Technical Data

Excess pressure in the system forces the air through the two-stage slosh protection. Here, the large oil particles are blocked and drip back into the system. The subsequent demister is used for condensation of larger oil particles, which stick to it, condense and also drip back.

Finer particles are separated at the 3 µm glass fiber filter and returned to the tank. Only the finest oil aerosols end up in the high bulk activated carbon. The 4 mm cylindrical pellets adsorb all remaining particles and thus protect the environment from contamination. At the end of the adsorber life cycle, the bottom white silica gel layer turns a brownish oil-like color, indicating the end of the operating interval.

Due to the valveless design and multi-stage separation, this adsorber has a high efficiency for separating particles from the system to the environment and a low differential pressure.

VG-D adsorbers are made of polycarbonate, polyamide, activated carbon as well as FKM seals and can be used for the deaeration of all common hydraulic and gear oils, lubricants, fuels and isocyanates.

Pressure ratio

There is currently no Spare Part Kit available for the VG-D series. After complete saturation, the entire adsorber is replaced.
